Belem Pastries


Making this traditional Portuguese dessert is easier than expected. This recipe is for 18 units but you can use half of the ingredients for making just 9 units.

Ingredientes

1 pastry dough

200 g sugar

180 ml water

Cinnamon stick

320 ml cream

6 egg yolks

40 g corn flour

Powdered cinnamon

 

Recipe

  1. Heat the water, cinnamon stick and sugar in a pot until you get a thick syrup. Let it cool down for a bit.

  2. Mix the yolks with the corn flour. In a different pot, heat the cream and add the yolk with the flour. When the cream is thick, slowly add the syrup and keep stirring until everything is mixed.

  3. Grease the muffins mold and set a round piece of pastry at the bottom of each mold. If you don´t have a muffin´s mold, you can use the normal muffin´s papers, like the ones in the picture. Fill in half of each mold or paper.

  4. Bake 200ºC for 20 minutes. Before serving them, add some powdered cinnamon on top.
