Giethoorn - The Venice of the North

This beautiful village located in The Netherlands is known as "The Venice of the North".

It is a village with no roads... you can breath the silence in a space without cars, motorbikes or any other vehicle.

Boat is the main means of transport. There are also footpaths for walking or cycling.

There are a lot of green areas around the gorgeous houses and water everywhere.

Although you can visit the village in a couple of hours, you may consider to stay there for some days. Giethoorn is well known for its rural environment and tourism, so there are different accommodations (hotels, beds&breakfast, rustic houses, camping...) and a wide selection of cafes and restaurants.

The tradition is renting an electric boat . Don´t worry, it is not required any special license or good driving skills to operate the boat. The price of the renting is 15 euros/hour and it can allocate around 6 people.

Other alternatives could be to take the tourist tour boat(1 hour), rent a boat with a driver, a canoe or an inflatable ball.

I recommend to rent an electric boat for one hour or two hours (you could rent it even for 3, 4 hours). There is a national park that does not have much to see, but if you take a boat for 2 hours, you can see part of the national park and the village. If you rent the boat for one hour you will see just the village which is the most beautiful part.

Take some snacks and drinks on the boat to make the perfect tour. If possible, visit Giethoorn in a sunny day.
