There is a big problem in our current society. Many people are not aware of this situation, some just ignore it, a very few are crying it out and others try to silence as much as possible. In fact, sometimes it is better not to know...
The truth is that we are too many on the Earth. Every year about 135 million people are born and 55 million people die, what it means a million more every 4 1/2 days.
There is no enough food for everybody. In developed countries, we can find chicken, cheese, yoghourts... EVERY day in ANY supermarket of ANY city. This is not sustainable... unless we "cheat".
In a simple way, the current factory farming industry strives to maximize output while minimizing costs. The giant corporations that run most factory farms have found that they can make more money by squeezing as many animals as possible into tiny spaces, even though many of the animals die from disease or infection.
Antibiotics are used to keep animals alive in the unsanitary conditions. Research shows that factory farms widespread use of antibiotics can lead to antibiotic-resistant bacteria that threaten human health.
Most factory-farmed animals have been genetically manipulated to grow larger or to produce more milk or eggs than they naturally would.
Not only the animals, but also fruits, veggies and cereals are genetically manipulated.
However, we do not see reality as it is. When we go to the supermarket, everything is clean, organized and bright; the shelves are full of products, colourful wrapping with people smiling, green fields, free animals...
There are 8 kinds of mayonnaise, 10 kinds of butter, 20 of yoghurts, 30 of cereals... packaging, cartons, boxes, plastics, containers..., however, everything is coming from the same industrial production... chemicals, hormones, flavour enhancer, substitutes, additives...
The food industry has become a successful business with a dangerous dark side that it will never be clarified because there are big companies behind with the enough power to hide the truth.
This information does not mean you stop eating, FOOD is essential, but we should check every product and its content, check the origin, buy local and seasonal products and read carefully the labels.
I recommend documentaries like Food Inc and Forks Over Knives which explain in detail all the things I have mentioned here. Also The secrets of sugar, about products with high amounts of hidden sugar.
The human being has a brilliant mind to create, however, his avarice and selfishness leads him to overstep the bounds.
